An inspiring and well-guided summit experience

My experience on the Nevado Santa Isabel summit tour was absolutely amazing. The organization was smooth, the guides were highly trained, and the entire route felt safe and well-managed.

Here are my recommendations for anyone planning to join this adventure:

Prepare for altitude: The summit is close to 5,000 meters, so take time to acclimatize. Even if you’re fit, the altitude can be surprising.

Dress in layers: Conditions change fast — wind, cold, and rain can appear within minutes. Waterproof gear and warm layers are essential.

Follow the guide’s instructions: The route has strict environmental and safety rules, and going with certified guides is mandatory for a reason.

Bring high-energy snacks & enough water: The ascent is demanding and starts very early, so keeping your energy up is important.

Respect the páramo ecosystem: Stay on the trail, don’t leave trash, and avoid stepping on fragile vegetation. This environment is unique and extremely delicate.

Expect challenging but beautiful terrain: From páramo landscapes to snowy sections near the glacier, every stage of the hike is stunning.

This tour is tough but incredibly rewarding. Reaching the top at sunrise, surrounded by pure high-mountain silence, is a moment I will never forget. If you love nature and don’t mind an early start, this climb is worth every step.

Demanding, raw, and deeply rewarding

As someone from Germany who enjoys mountain hiking, this was one of the most powerful experiences I’ve had in South America. The early start, the silence of the páramo, and the final push to the glacier made it a real challenge. But reaching the top was emotional. It’s not just about the views — it’s about what you feel getting there. The Randes team respects the mountain deeply, and that made the experience even more meaningful. Highly recommended for serious hikers and nature lovers.
